Great Game Fairs of Ireland All Ireland Game Fair Championships

These championships are designed to encourage the widest possible competition in that literally any competent shot, caster or gundog handler can with the top prize. There are two opportunities to qualify for the finals which this year will be held in Birr Castle. There are qualifying heats open to anyone at both Shanes Castle and Birr. These qualifying events also have unrivalled prize structures.

There are four competitions:-
1.The Team Competition - Team of three to run their dogs in an Open Gundog Test (based on seen retrieves) and the same three handlers to individually shoot 10 clay pigeons.
Entry Fee £30 ( Does not include admission to the Fair)
1st The Doreen Metcalf Memorial Trophy, £150 and bags of Feedwell Dog Food.
2nd £75 and bags of Feedwell Dog Food
3rd £45 and bags of Feedwell Dog Food
Rosettes to Fourth place

2.An Individual Competition where the handler will run his/her dog in the Open Gundog Test (seen retrieves) and shoot ten sporting clay pigeons.

Organised by the Mid Ulster Gundog Association (Contact Joe Johnston on 028 8673 6432) or Robbie McGregor (028 2766 8867) starts at 09.30am

Feedwell/Burren Trailers International Open Test
Organised by the Mid Ulster Gundog Association starts at 1.45pm sharp entries in advance or taken on the ground.

1st A Bumper Boy Launcher from H&J Pet Foods worth £595plus a bag of Feedwell Dog Food
2nd £100 plus a bag of Feedwell Dog Food
3rd £75 plus a bag of Feedwell Dog Food

Top four dogs qualify for grand final at Birr where a €5,500 Burren Trailer will be won. Top four NI dogs will form the NI team for the international at Birr.

Sunday: Minor Breeds Tests organised by the Irish Water Spaniel Club!


Angling Competitions - Sponsored by Dunfly Tackle

There will be four classes:

1. Professional
2. Amateur
3. Ladies
4. Youths

The two top casters in each class will compete for the main prize. In this "cast off" the professional will start with a handicap of 5 metres.
